Homework: The Threat Posed by ISIS
Our first major unit this trimester will focus on the Middle East.
For the past year, the group known as ISIS-also known as the Islamic State, or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant- has been engaged in a war of terror against the governments of Syria and Iraq. ISIS has gone further, threatening any nation they believe stands in the way of their goals.
This homework assignment will help you explore the level of the threat posed by ISIS.
Note: news sources often just refer to ISIS as “IS”-which is short for Islamic State
Complete written answers to the following:
1.find out what ISIS is and who as joined them (what specific groups of people or types of people have joined this group?)
2.identify where ISIS operates. Be as specific as you can here. Where in Syria or Iraq are they causing the most trouble?
3. Describe the goal of ISIS: what is ISIS trying to achieve?
4. In your opinion, does the goal of ISIS pose a threat to the United States?
5. In your opinion, should the United States instead pay more attention to the refugee crisis in Europe or the economic crisis in China?
